As an identical twin, he and Kevin were often referred to as the “twins,” without separate names. But I helped Ken achieve his own identity years ago. We were swimming in our family pool. Ken was on my back when I came up fast from underwater. Ken hit his front teeth on the edge of the pool, chipping his two front teeth. My friend Katie thought it was a great way to tell Kevin and Ken apart. She would ask them to smile and if she saw those chipped teeth, she knew it was Kenneth.
